St Lawrence River pike on spoon

Another nice warm day after a heat wave, calm conditions had us out on Lake St Francis for another afternoon trip. We started off casting for pike unsuccessfully for a couple hours, all we manage we a few follows from smaller fish chasing minnow baits. On Avi’s advice, I switched up to a hammered silver spoon, had a hit on the first cast, hooked into it about 5 minutes later. I let Avi bring it in, turned out to be a nice 6 lb pike, it had a small lamprey attached to it, which let go when we netted it.

Nothing much else as far as pike, we headed to the Raisin River which turned out to be choked with weeds, the water temp has already reached an unbelievable 80 degrees Farenheit in some areas. We managed to hook some panfish, about 5 or six Largemouth bass and a couple smaller smallmouth bass. Looks like the bigger smallmouth and walleyes have made their way back to the St Lawrence River, musky season should be upon us soon.
