Lake champlain lake trout fishing

With record breaking heat for the first days of spring, I headed out to lake Champlain with my friend Mike after being invited to fish for big lake trout. I owed my 11 year old son Avi a fishing trip, so I took him out of school for the day to let him experience how trolling is properly done, and hoping he'd land some trophy lake trout.

We launched at about 10 AM, was closer to 10:30 by the time we were set up trolling 6 lines for the lake trout. The bid lakers are still shallow, so all we needed we the planer boards to give our lines a nice spread.

The Lake Champlain lake trout didn't take long take up our offerings. Avi landed This gorgeous laker on the first hookup of the day:

Mike had his hot spots from the past few seasons marked in his GPS unit. We kept trolling his "strike zone". The technique paid of with some nice fish.

Sure enough, most of the fish came from the same area. We ended up catching our bag limit within 3.5 hours, including this monster lake trout which we ended upo releasing due to it being covered with horrible lamprey bites and holes all over it's body.

Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied with the outing, and Avi was more than thrilled at his big catches of the day, as he's never fished for or caught lake trout before, and was more than happy that they were real nice ones too.

Mike came though as usual. While others fishing the same area weren't catching much, we kept hooking them up one after the other. I recommend his guiding service to anyone looking for trophy fish such as as lake trout, walleye, salmon and musky.
