Wind died down, I headed back to my boat on Lake St Francis for some bass fishing. Our plan was to fish live minnows on drop shot rigs. We started off anchoring in the strong current over 20 feet of water, and actually caught a couple smallmouth bass in the 2 lb range.
As we were having lots of trouble anchored in the current, we decided to head shallow for some largemouth bass.
That plan didn’t work, so we headed deep after a few hours of not catching anything. This time we decided to drift the drop shot rigs in the seaway channel. The decision turned out to be a great one, we caught 5 more bass in about 2 hours, all over 3 lbs. The largest was a 21 inch / 4.75 lb “hawg”. All came out of 25-35 feet of water, on the drift. It was our most successful smallmouth outing on St Francis to date, hope to try again in a couple days.
