First attempt at musky fishing

As I’ve been waiting to attempt musky fishing since last fall, my fishing buddy and I decided to go for it. We had the afternoon and evening reserved to try to hit peak musky fishing hours. The plan was to troll the seaway or the sides adjacent to it. By the time we got out, the waves we getting close to 2 feet. We managed to get our rigs set up and the rods in their holders. We trolled a few different musky lures such as believers, ernies, jakes and shallow raiders at various depths, all we hooked wre some weeds that have now choked most of Lake St Francis. As the waves kept getting bigger, my buddy was despairing. The clincher was a big cargo ship coming at us throwing nice 6-8 foot waves in it’s wake. Although it was surrounded by wave runners enjoying the wake, we got safely out of it’s way in a hurry, as we were already taking on water ever now and then. As my buddy anticipated this before we left, we headed back to the car were we left the regular gear “just in case”. We switched to bass tackle and headed up the Raisin River for some calmer conditions. After trolling and casting without success for close to 4 hours, the bass finally turned on at around 7:30 PM for a 1 hour flurry during which time we hooked about a dozen largemouth bass in the 1 – 1.5 lb range. Looks like were stuck dusk and dawn conditions again until the weather cools down a bit, the water temp in the Raisin river is well over 80 degrees farenheit , up to 85 in some spots.
